I went to the Sligo Inn Irish pub again with Mayu, as the band Irish Cream
were playing again. They were great as usual, and the whole experience was
as nostalgic as ever - convincing British pub settings, traditional folk
music...almost brought a tear to my eye thinking about old Blighty.
If anyone could be possible Bohemians in Japan, it's most definitely Irish
Cream. The band comprises mainly of members of the Honma family, all of
whom play traditional Western instruments like the fiddle, tin whistle and
mandolin. They're really devoted to their music and are members of
Kumamoto's Irish Music Lovers' Society, Ceoltoiri (you'd never think
something like that would exist in Kumamoto! Their youngest member,
Asakosan (the bodhranist whom I talked to last time), is 20. Bless her,
she was really ill last night but still played for a few songs.
