One thing I love about Spring is that all the little animals come out from
hiding :)
Today, coming back from town, I saw my first Japanese lizard:

Isn't it so cute?
I'm not sure of the species, but it's definitely some sort of skink. It
was a good 5 inches long, so medium-sized by lizard standards. It made me
miss the days when I used to keep lizards (green anoles, mainly).
And when Phil was here, we saw quite a bit of wildlife I hadn't seen
before. Near the bus-stop, we saw two snakes doing...something (Phil
thinks they were fighting, I think they were making sweet snakey love).
They had very adder-like markings on them, but as far as I know the adders
we get in Europe can't be found in Japan.
AND I also saw my first tanuki while Phil was here. A tanuki, sometimes
called "raccoon dog" in English, sort of looks like a raccoon with a short
tail. Japanese legends are full of tanuki. They are very sweet, and the
great thing is, if you're lucky, you can see them around the dormitory
where I live as there's a whole group living here (but they're quite easy
to mistake for cats, of which there are hundreds around here).
Spring's great :) Especially days like this when it's sunny, but not
enough to get me burned, and warm, but not too hot. A perfect day.
