On Valentine's Day, Japanese girls give chocolates to all the boys they
know - reserving the largest and most expensive for the guys they like
most! The boys have to do their bit though - a week later it's "White
Day," where the guys are expected to give chocolate (traditionally white
chocolate) in return to the girls who gave them Valentine's chocolate.
Well, today I did receive an awful lot of chocolate - not from any
Japanese, however, but from my Nan, who sent me two packs of Chocolate
Fingers and a pack of Chocolate Digestives (yay!) all the way from England
as a late Christmas present! And she sent me an unbelievable quantity of
teabags too - easily a year's supply :) So, I don't think I have to worry
about running out of English tea while I'm here.
I also got a lovely (French!) Valentine's card from Phil, all the way from
France - yes, it arrived exactly today, great timing Phil! And it came
with a nice letter too. So I'm happy :) :)
I really made Kisako laugh today - I wanted her help to book a hotel
online for my sister and her hubbie when they come to Kumamoto, and I said
that I'd found them a vegetable hotel (yasai hoteru). I meant to say cheap
hotel (yasui hoteru). She said it was incredibly cute, and was giggling
for quite a while!
