I think this birthday has been one of the best ever. Recent past birthdays
have been let-downs/utter disasters, so this year's birthday has been
FANTASTIC! Not only has it lasted a week (what with celebrating it in
Tokyo as well as Kumamoto) but it was topped off by last night's big
celebration.
It all started in Tom's room, where we all had drinks, ate the birthday
cake Ellie got me (which was DELICIOUS!) and exchanged presents (or
rather, me and Richard received presents!). Richard seemed really pleased
with the presents I got him - a black satin tie with a spider design on it
(which I bought in Claire's Accessories!) and two large cans of Yebisu
beer.
Everyone was really generous to me. Andy got me a bottle of Melon Midori
(that delicious green liquor that looks a bit like absinthe, but is
actually drinkable) - by the way, did you know the word "midori" is
actually the Japanese word for "green?" Hence the name! Nick got me a
Morning Musume album. Morning Musume is a Japanese all-girl pop band, and
probably the cheesiest band ever! Their song "Love Machine" has become one
of our favourites in karaoke; the guys like it because of the video (which
features the incredibly young girls of Morning Musume dancing and
generally looking sexy), while I like it because the electronic
accompaniment sounds like early 90s Japanese computer game music (think
Sonic the Hedgehog!) - oh, the nostalgia!
Ian, Julie and Saranne all got me some fantastic joint presents: a pretty
bracelet with a fleur-de-lys design, an awesome skull-shaped candle which
I simply can't burn cause it's so fantastic, a Nightmare Before Christmas
purse (you can never have two many purses!), a huge bar of Cadbury's Three
Wishes chocolate (where they got Cadbury's from in Japan, I've no idea!)
and some fantastic knee-length socks with a skull-and-crossbones design on
them! They went so well with my Lolita outfit.
Basically, I'm a very very lucky girl!

Birthday Boy & Girl - me and Richard in Tom's room!
(that's the tie I got him from Claire's Accessories)

still reasonably sober at this point

And then Saranne, Julie and Ian joined in! I'm holding
the skull-shaped candle that said people bought for me ^_^

After that, we went out for the party. As well as being a joint birthday
for Richard and I, it was also a Shinnenkai for the German students and
their Japanese friends. There were 27 of us in all! We all went to an
all-you-can-drink izakaya and had our own private room, which was
completely packed out with all of us. And later on, one of our Japanese
teachers Imanishisensei arrived, which was awesome!
After much eating and drinking, we headed, of course, to Jeff's Bar for
more drinking. Because there were so many of us, we got the private room
at the bar again. That was really fun - by this time, everyone was
slaughtered, even Imanishisensei!

At the izakaya. Richard looks decidedly more drunk
now...

....as do the rest of us!

Ian and the girls! Who's the lucky lad then??

Not as lucky as our teacher Imanishisensei, who's
surrounded by no less than four lovely ladies (plus Kurt the American
student)

The legendary Jeff, and Richard.

And another group piccie! Awww!
Unfortunately, I didn't bring enough money with me, so I had to get a cab
home early before everyone went out for karaoke, but it was still a great
night!
