October 20th 2004 - The Typhoon

The typhoon indeed hit us today. And indeed, university was cancelled. So, we’ve spent the day with the German students sitting around and watching “The Last Samurai.” I’ve guzzled so many of the truffles my parents sent me that I’ve lost count. I’m going to end up looking like a fugu (pufferfish) if I keep eating like this!

The worst of the typhoon seems to have passed now, and as I write I can see patches of blue sky appearing. Earlier, it was really rainy and windy, I was getting wet just walking out of my room (the rooms open onto an outside corridor). The rain has stopped now, and the wind had died down a bit.

I thought the typhoon might be interesting, knocking over trees and things, but no, all the trees and houses still appear to be standing. In fact, the typhoon was boring, if nothing – it meant we couldn’t go out anywhere and were stuck in the Kaikan doing nothing. I’ve spent my evening copying music from Richard (I have lots of new music now!) and copying Japanese recipes from Helen’s book. Hopefully, tomorrow shall be more interesting.
