The weather outside is terrible – its raining cats and dogs, and the
wind’s really picked up; I bought an umbrella from the konbini
(convenience store) on the way back from uni, and within 10 minutes it was
torn apart by the wind. The bad weather is due to the taifuu (typhoon)
that’s due to hit Kumamoto any time between this evening and tomorrow
morning. That should be pretty interesting! If it’s really strong, the
university classes will be cancelled and we’ll have to spend the whole day
in the Kaikan.
However, this isn’t too much of a bad thing, as today I got a parcel from
my parents containing some more clothes, French chocolate, blu-tac (no
more using that useless tape stuff!), postcards from Rochester, PG Tips
and, best of all, a single bottle of orange reef! So if worst comes to
worst, I can sit in doors all day tomorrow eating chocolate, drinking
English tea and watching films. Thanks mum and dad!
Tonight, Richard, Helen, Ellie, Andy, Saranne and me curled up in my room
and watched “The Mummy,” eating the biscuits and chocolates and drinking
the tea that my parents sent me. Half way through the film, Tom walked in
and told us that he’d been to a posh restaurant with his tutor and her
uncle, and had been eating lobster, caviar and foie gras all night! The
bill came to something like £140 per head – a good thing that the uncle
paid. Lucky bastard!
It’s very likely that tomorrow will be spent indoors all day watching
films and eating more food, as the typhoon is headed this way…
